A Social Worker by trade, when I became a stay at home Mom in 2007, my son and I took many walks around the neighborhood and noticed how bountiful fruit trees are in Berkeley. It appeared many of the fruits were not being harvested or the fruits were just too plentiful for one household to absorb. I’ve always liked picking fruit and love the idea of donating our neighborhood’s fruits to community programs that feed school kids, the elderly, the homebound and the hungry. North Berkeley Harvest came to fruition, so to speak, in Oct. 2007. To date, our volunteers have harvested greater than 1500 pounds of fruit which have been donated to local non-profits.
